TUESDAY NIGHT GREETER

Guidelines

Arrive at 5:30-5:40

1. Turn on lights and fan in Welcome Hall. Switches are on the wall as you enter the kitchen.

2. Open blinds in Welcome Room.

3. Turn on lights in Meditation Hall.

4. Turn on lights in bookcase and over monks painting in the bathroom hall.

5. Light Candle in Meditation Hall. Matches are located under the Buddha table.

6. If teacher hasn’t already placed drinking water on table, do so for them.

7. Welcome newcomers and invite them to check out bulletin board and give them one of the tri-fold flyers. If they want on the mailing list, ask them to fill out form on table under bulletin board. Point them towards the “freely given” shelf and magazines.

At 5:55-sound gong

At 6:00-Put sign on door that tells those who are entering that “meditation is in progress”. (This sign is stored in a cabinet under the bookcases nearest the kitchen.)

If people arrive after 6:00, invite them to enter the meditation quietly.

This is where you have a choice:

1. Some “greeters” may choose to leave both doors open and sit in meditation and listen to the dharma talk by one of the open doors.

2. Other “greeters” may choose to close one of the doors and sit in the welcome hall near the open door (so they can be a part of the meditation) to listen for latecomers.

3. Or, you may take a seat in the back of the Meditation Hall and listen for anyone who might come after the “sitting” has begun.

4. Other “greeters” may choose to close all doors and sit on their own for in the Welcome Hall for meditation.

No matter which you choose, the front door will be left unlocked, and your responsibility is to be aware of the front door opening and quietly assisting latecomers into the meditation hall through one of the the side doors.

After Sangha

1. Invite any newcomers to sign the registry to receive emails. You might simply ask anyone you don’t know, “Do you receive emails from IMFW?” “Would you like to?”

2. Make sure candles are out in the meditation hall

3. Close blinds

4. Turn off lights in meditation hall and over monks painting.

(and, thank you very much for supporting Sangha in this way)
